New Zealand's forest Industry in Crisis Talks
New Zealand's forestry industry representatives have been invited to Wellington to meet with Economic Development Minister Jim Anderton to discuss the industry's development strategy. The Timber Industry Federation appears to think that the government is hostile to business and views industry as 'some sort of necessary evil,. The moves come as a number of firms lay-off workers or close plants due to the high New Zealand dollar and a drop off in sales to the US. The federation is refusing to meet the minister but executive director Wayne Coffey had an acrimonious debate with Mr Anderton on National Radio regarding government policies.
