The Finnish Forest Industry Association: Finnish companies are planning investments in the cellulose and paper industry of Russia
According to A. Portin, for the Finnish enterprises, a very important
factor is the possibility of duty-free importation to Russia of
machines for the industry of timber, as well as the lack of export
duties on wood products.
At the same time, according to Vice-President of the Finnish
Association of Forestry industry, the negative point is poorly
developed the forest infrastructure from Russia, especially the lack of
density of forest roads. "Investors will have to face the fact that
they will have to invest heavily in this infrastructure development", -
emphasized A. Portin.
However, the plans of the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation,
Vladimir Putin, about the abolition of multiple duties on the export of
timber from January 1, 2009 and transferring it for several months,
«will give to the Finland adapt to the new circumstances» — commented
A. Portin.
Recall that the Russian government has decided to postpone the adoption of new customs duties on round wood for 9-10 months.
Although Russia does not intent to abandon the construction of its wood
business (enterprises), Putin said that for the investors, including
the Finnish team, will be provided very good proposals for investment
in Russia's timber industry, take in consideration the financial crisis
around the world.
