Sierra-Leon’s timber is prohibited to export
The most suffer
came to the period of the civil war 1991-2002. More than 70% from 6
million citizens are living rough there that is why they use any
possibilities for getting money. Lumbering is one of the sources.
Forests abolishing in some districts led to the soil erosion that was
followed by abandoning of the living places. Now Sierra-Leon’s
authorities are trying to block the way to robbing the rest natural
resources. It is necessary to say that there was no one forest laws
worked out in Sierra-Leon for the period of the independence from the
British colonial regime. Truly speaking it would not make sense in
terms of the civil war though now when peace has come the forestry
sector has to be regulated by laws and not by the different armed
criminal gangs. The government must provide forests preservation and
inequitable income distribution for their use.
