Sawmill subsidy: 3,6 mill. Euro reclaim

In the first instance, Europe`s largest hardwood sawmiller, Ralf Pollmeier, failed last week with its complaint aganist the European Commission, who, in January 2002, had previously demanded the repayment of 3,6 million Euros. Subsides for the beech sawmill in Malchow, Germany, was a controversial subject. For the European Union Commission and the Court, Pollmeier`s sharholding in the Pollmeier Holzbearbeitung, Rietberg/Germany, Pollmeier Massivholz, Creuzburg/Germany, and the American manufacturer, Inland Wood Specialists was crucial. At the time in question, Pollmeier had not corresponded to the subsidy request appropriate to the regulations for small and medium sized enterprises (SME).
