British Timber Statistics 2003
The Forestry Commission published statistics on British timber harvested and used by primary wood processing industries in Great Britain in "British Timber Statistics 2003".
· A total of 7.8 million green tonnes of British timber (roundwood) was delivered to primary wood processors and others in 2003, an increase of 4% on the previous year.
· Deliveries of logs to sawmills accounted for 4.5 million green tonnes (57% of the total)
· A further 1.5 million green tonnes (19%) were delivered to wood-based panel mills and 0.9 million tonnes (12%) to integrated pulp and paper mills. Other uses included round fencing, fuelwood and exports of roundwood.
