Japan: OSB Shortages Continue

Domestic OSB inventories continue to be tight. After the North American supply nose-dived late last year volumes on offer for January shipment have increased to some extent but not enough to satisfy the demand so prices remain firm. C&F prices for January shipments for 9.5 mm 3x6 are US$310 per 1000 sqft, US$30 higher than in December and 9.5 mm 3x8 is at US$320, US$20 higher. Importers are having to raise their sales prices despite the stronger yen and in Tokyo prices of JAS 9.5 mm 4x8 are firming at yen 690-750 per sheet delivered.
