US Housing Market in February
Privately-owned housing units authorized by building permits in February were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,903,000,. This is 1.5 percent (±0.8%) below the revised January rate of 1,932,000, but is 6.6 percent (±1.0%) above the February 2003 estimate of 1,786,000.
Single-family authorizations in February were at a rate of 1,508,000; this is 0.1 percent (±0.9%) above the January figure of 1,507,000.
Authorizations of units in buildings with five units or more were at a rate of 315,000 in February.
Housing Starts
Privately-owned housing starts in February were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,855,000. This is 4.0 percent (±7.3%) below the revised January estimate of 1,932,000, but is 13.1 percent (±6.7%) above the February 2003 rate of 1,640,000. Single-family housing starts in February 2004 were at a rate of 1,489,000; this is 4.1 percent (±7.3%) below the January figure of 1,553,000. The February estimate for units in buildings with five units or more was 336,000.
