Nordic Forest Owners' Associations: Towards a normal year in Norwegian forestry

With smooth development in December, the total harvesting of timber through the forest owner cooperative port in Norway will be about 6.3 million cubic meters in 2010. The figures for November show a withdrawal of 545,399 cubic meters, an increase of 39% from the same month in the crisis year 2009, as the Nordic Forest Owners' Associations said in a press release received by Lesprom Network.

The winter has so far offered good working conditions, despite a long period of severe cold. So far this year (to November) logging is measured to 5.8 million cubic meters. With normal operating conditions around 500,000 cubic meters will be removed in the last month. With a total amount of 6.3 million cubic meters, the year 2010 would end up about on the level than the years before the financial crisis.

The total for 2010 will be seen as a significant boost compared with last year, but in the longer run will come close to average.
